Yankee Doodle è un personaggio del cartone animato “Dastardly e Muttley e le macchine volanti”, noto anche come Lo squadrone avvoltoi. I personaggi principali del cartone animato sono: Dick Dastardly e Muttley, il cattivo per eccellenza e capo dello Squadrone Avvoltoi e il suo (non più di tanto) fido cane. Lo scopo dei due è quello di fermare il piccione viaggiatore Yankee-doodle, ovvero evitare che questi consegni la posta al nemico. Da qui il titolo della sigla di apertura “Stop the pigeon” (ferma il piccione), cantata dallo stesso Dick Dastardly.

Yankee Doodle is a character from the cartoon “Dastardly and Muttley and the flying machines”, also known as Lo squadron vultures. The main characters of the cartoon are: Dick Dastardly and Muttley, the villain par excellence and head of the Squadron Vultures and his (not that much) trust dog. The purpose of the two is to stop the Yankee-doodle traveler pigeon, which is to prevent them from delivering mail to the enemy. Hence the title of the opening theme “Stop the pigeon” (stops the pigeon), sung by Dick Dastardly himself.

In quanto cane non dovrebbe parlare: tuttavia pronuncia “sì”, “medaglia” o grugniti riconducibili al linguaggio umano. Mitica e famosissima è la sua risata asmatica, che di solito si scatena a spese di Dick. Una curiosità: il celebre “Medaglia, Medaglia” è un’invenzione del doppiaggio in italiano. Nella versione inglese Muttley si limita ad emettere una serie di grugniti di approvazione verso Dick Dastardly quando gli chiede se vuole la medaglia.

A curiosity: the famous “Medal, Medal” is an invention of Italian dubbing. In the English version Muttley merely issues a series of grunts of approval towards Dick Dastardly when asked if he wants the medal.
